Can’t believe there are only two more weeks until the next break, half term (or Whitsun, as many of us know it as). It does get ridiculous when Easter is so late and we end up with a very short first summer half term. Throw in a bank holiday (as nice as that was) and it makes it even shorter – 19 days!

Next week is a big week for our Year 6 children. They have the first of their SATs on Monday morning, and then have them every morning up until Thursday. They have worked so very hard to ensure they are as prepared as possible and do the best that they can. We will be supporting them all the way and we know they will do themselves proud. I’m sure you all want to join in with wishing them the very best for next week!

Friendship

This week in worship we have been looking at friendship and what that looks like/means to us. I shared the book ‘Puff the Magic Dragon’ (see the link to purchase here if you’re interested), which was originally a song from the 1960s (some of you may know it). You can listen to the version that we shared with the children through this link. It gives lots of opportunities to discuss friendships and the impact they can have.

“I can do all things through him through Him who strengthens me.”

VE Day

We had lots of children dressed in red, white and blue as we commemorated VE Day in school this week. We explained to children on Wednesday in assembly what VE Day is about and why it is important. Each class did something on Thursday connected to VE Day – have a chat to your child about what they did. We also showed them a short video, from BBC Bitesize, if you would like to watch that with your child. Link is here.

Forest School

It’s been a busy few weeks in forest school with Reception finishing their block of sessions and Year 3 loving the sunny sessions.

Reception had great fun in the sun last week, learning to use the hammer safely to make leaf print butterflies, chilling in the hammock and cooling down in the shade with lots of water play.

Year 3 do love a show and there have been lots of performances.  They also celebrated VE day by designing their own flags and made wood medals.

Children Charity Champions

This term we have a new cause to support and the school council decided they wanted to support Children in Uganda. My daughter is visiting Uganda in May half term, running their half marathon aswell as working in the schools and communities whilst she is there. She came into school this week and talked to the whole school in assembly about the work that she will doing and how the children can support them. We are keen to ensure that children know that ‘giving’ isn’t all about raising lots of money and small acts can really support others. You will have received a letter which gives more detail but please don’t hesitate to contact us if you require any further information.

Holiday Clubs

I will be running some forest school clubs over the summer holidays.  If you are interested in your child attending, please follow the link below for more information and booking. Places are limited. https://www.ticketsource.co.uk/fruits-of-the-forest

Have a lovely weekend
