The Pupil Premium is additional funding given to publicly funded schools in England to raise the attainment of disadvantaged pupils and close the gap between them and their peers. It is allocated to children from low-income families who are currently known to be eligible for Free School Meals (FSM), Looked after Children, children adopted from care and Service Forces children. It also includes pupils who have been eligible for FSM at any point in the last six years (known as the Ever 6 FSM measure).
Every child whose parents are receiving one of the welfare benefits listed below could be eligible for Free School Meals and therefore will qualify for Pupil Premium funding:
1) Income Support
2) Income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance or Employment and Support Allowance
3) Support under part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999
4) The guaranteed element of Pension Credit
5) Child Tax Credit (as long as you are not also entitled to Working Tax Credit and have an annual gross income of no more than £16,190)
6) Working Tax Credit run-on
7) Universal Credit
