It’s been a couple of weeks since the last update, in part due to the fact the website locked up last week and wouldn’t let me in! Hopefully all sorted now though. Lots to catch. p on this week, so have a good read of everything below. Have a good weekend.

World Thinking Day

February 22 2025 is World Thinking Day. Anyone in brownies or guides can wear their uniform to school on this date, if they want to. More information can be found here.

Crossing the Hagley Road

Please take care when crossing the Hagley Road, when coming to, or leaving, school. We have had some reports from concerned parents and other members of the community about parents and children taking unnecessary risks, for example dodging in between traffic, when coming to and from school. Please use the crossing if at all possible.

Pedmore PTA – Fundraising Achievements So Far and Survey

Dear All,

Firstly, thank you to all those who attended film night yesterday. The children had a lovely time with their friends. Thank you to all those who volunteered to help make the event happen and to the staff for giving up their time to support our event.

We are delighted to announce we made an incredible Β£7128.85 last term! This incredible amount is only possible with the help and support of all of you. Thank you.

This year our big spend project will be funding 35 new iPads and the accessories and software to run them. This will cost around Β£11,000. We are very fortunate to have a supportive community to enable us to put this amount of money into supporting school.

Please take a look at the attached poster to see where the money was made last term and how else we are planning on spending it.

Finally, we are keen to hear your thoughts. The PTA is there to both fundraise for school and to help further develop a sense of community for all children and their families at Pedmore. We fundraise for all children and create events that foster a community spirit. And every parent/carer within school is a member of the PTA. We would be grateful if you could take a few minutes to complete the following parent survey and share your thoughts on the events and fundraising we do. Thank you.

Forest School

It’s been a busy few weeks in forest school with Year 6 having had 3 sessions in the woods, having time to play and create! It’s been a welcome break from all their work in readiness for SATs

Year 2 started their 6 week block on Tuesday and they were really industrious in helping to create the dead hedge which will line our quiet and reflective garden.

After having a working party last weekend, we had put in the stakes and  there was lots of willow and brash collected which the children used to fill the fence. We hope it will provide a wonderful habitat for lots of wildlife as well as create a beautiful boundary to our garden.

Watch this space as I hope that in a few months time the garden will be developed further and hopefully by the summer we shall have some beautiful flowers growing!

Children Charity Champions.

Our fundraising continues for Acorns Children’s Hospice and this week we started our month long READATHON.

My books are lined up and I hope I can get through them this month, it is a real incentive to get reading! I do hope the children enjoy the challenge.

Some children from Year 5/6 welcomed Jude and his Mum, Rachel into school this week. Acorns supports Jude and his family and Rachel was able to explain the importance of their support. The children asked lots of great questions and I think it helped them to understand the work of the hospice and  how important is is for so many families. I was so proud of them.

The children will be doing a presentation to the rest of the school in assembly to share the visit with them.

Thank you so much for your continued support with this programme, I really hope that it id having a positive impact on your children.

Have a great weekend

Safeguarding

Among children TikTok boasts approximately 220 million users, providing a near-endless reel of short clips intended to entertain, educate and more. However, along with its enormous userbase comes a significant number of possible risks: Ofcom have dubbed it the most likely app on which teen users would potentially suffer harm.

With the platform reaching astronomical levels of success among the younger generation, it’s vitally important for parents and educators to understand the risks it poses. This free guide lets you know about the most prominent potential dangers associated with TikTok and offers expert advice on how to safeguard youngsters who are navigating the site.
