We’ve had a great couple of weeks in school. Lots going on for World Book Day and science day (more on this next week), and there are some more details and pictures below. Have a good weekend and we’ll see you all next week.
School Dinner Survey
A big thank you to everyone who completed our school dinner survey. I’ll be sending out a response soon, after discussions with AiP, our school meals provider.
Read-a-thon
The recent read-a-thon has been a massive success. Thank you to all of you who have worked with your child and completed the challenge and sent in sponsorship. A massive £1208.00 has been raised to go to Acorns Hospice! This now gives a total raised for the hospice of £2,588.00!!
Attendance
3 classes shared the attendance prize this week – Year 5, Year 3 and Reception. Well done to you all! There will be some reports coming out to some parents over the next week or so detailing your child’s current attendance. These will be being sent to you as your child will have hit a certain absence % will means a letter is triggered. If you would like any support with absence issues for your child, please contact us at school. Thank you.
World Book Day
We had a fantastic day with lots going on all through the day. Each class designed their own classroom door’s book design and you can see those, and other bits from the day, in the video below.
Parking
Once again, we are asking you all to be considerate when parking your car around school. We have had complaints from local residents about poor parking practice, and even someone lying about their ‘disabled child’, and so needing to park illegally. I appreciate that sometimes people are in a rush, but please consider others when parking your car. Thank you.
Happy News
Last week’s edition of Happy News can be found here. It contains a story about a recently-discovered Pharaoh’s tomb. The latest issue can be found here. This one includes a story of a woolly mouse!
Forest School
Forest School
Another great sunny spring day in the woods with Year 2 this week.
As it was shrove Tuesday the children made pancakes and cooked them on the fire.
They also helped with looking after our beautiful site, ensuring that we care for it in the right way. Children helped sort fire wood as well as collect and lay chippings on the muddy areas to help protect the ground.
There was also lots of play with children making dens for the animals thinking about what they would need! We had a great badgers sett dug in the mud pit!
It never ceases to amaze me the imaginative play that children show in forest school. Leading the way certainly fires lots of energy and enthusiam.
I am so privileged to work with your great children, giving them a variety of opportunities in forest school I hope will help develop life skills, boost wellbeing and always lots of fun!
Cross Country Club
We had our biggest cross country club ever this week, with 26 children enjoying lots of running games as well as developing tactics in keeping their energy up to keep running those laps!
I am really happy to have one of my daughters working with the group, who is training to be a run leader and a big runner herself!
Pedmore is where she developed her love of running 13 years ago so it’s lovely to see her inspire the next generation!
Readathon and World Book Day
It was lovely to join the children at lunchtime yesterday. We had some storytelling in the outdoor classroom where I told the children some new stories but also enjoyed some ones that they all knew and they were able to act them out as well as add their own little twists too!
We also had some great posters for the readathon poster competition and it was great to present the 2 winners with their prizes.
Huge thank you to everyone who took part in the readathon, I hope the children enjoyed all those extra books!
We have been blown away with how much money the children have raised and pleased to say we have raised £1208.00.
This will be so beneficial to Acorns Children’s Hospice and I am so proud and grateful to say to date we have raised in total £2,588.00.
Many, many thanks to you and all your children for embracing the Children’s Charity Champions programme.
