MP’s Christmas Card Competition
Below is a message from Cat Eccles, our local MP, regarding the Christmas card competition she is running. If you want to do an entry, you can send it off yourself or send it to school where we will send off all the entries together. It would be great if we could have a few entries from Pedmore! School will send them off on Monday 10th November, so please get them to us by that date if you want us to send the entries for you.
Good Afternoon
As your local MP, I have had the privilege of visiting many schools across Stourbridge, Brierley Hill and Netherton over the last twelve months. Every time I have been taken on a tour, I’ve always been struck by the level of fantastic art on display around our school buildings.
That’s why this year; I’m looking for a talented young artist from our constituency to design my Christmas card for the festive season.
I trust in the creativity of our young people, and so rather than use a stock image of Parliament or Big Ben this Christmas, I’d much prefer a card created by one of our brilliant local students!
How to enter
- You must live and attend a school in the Stourbridge constituency, including Netherton and Brierley Hill (check via postcode here)
- Open to all from Reception through Year 9
- Theme: Christmas (no strict rules beyond that)
- Max size: A4; use pens, pencils, crayons
- Please do not attach items (glitter, cotton, etc)
- Do not fold the artwork
- On the reverse: student name, date of birth, school (so works don’t get lost)
- Artwork cannot be returned
- The judging decision is final
Entries must be sent to my constituency office by 5.30 pm, Monday 17 November.
Please send all artwork in an envelope via FREEPOST CAT ECCLES MP (so you don’t have to pay).
The winner will be announced Thursday 20th November, and their school will be contacted.
The chosen design will be sent to all my contacts this Christmas, and the winner, plus their family, will be invited to visit the Palace of Westminster in time to see the Parliamentary Christmas Markets!
I look forward to seeing your creativity.
Best wishes,
Cat
Book Review – Tom, Year 6
My book review: Percy Jackson and Battle of the Labyrinth
This is a myth and legends series and is the fourth book of the series. It is about Percy Jackson, his best friend Annabeth Chase, Grover [a satyr] and Tyson, Percy’s half-brother, who is a Cyclopes. They all go into a Daedalus’ Labyrinth. This is an ancient Labyrinth that drives people mad like Clarice’s [one of Percy’s arch enemies) boyfriend Chris Rodrigez. Once they’ve completed their task, which is to find Daedalus (creator of the labyrinth), there is a big fight against Kronos [the Titan Lord of time and father of the 3 major Gods: Hades, Poseidon and Zeus] and his army.

Five stars
Author: Rick Riordan
Illustrator: No one
Pictures: None
If you don’t like big, chunky books there is a graphic novel [a comic] of this book and the entire series.
Forest School
Autumn has certainly arrived and we were blessed with some beautiful sunshine.
This week year 2 made their own apple juice, using our new apple chopper and then added them to the press where they used all their power to squeeze the apple to make some juice!
The results were amazing and the juice so sweet!
We also enjoyed some stewed apples with cinnamon from the fire.
Thank you Mrs Robbins for giving us your apples from your trees!
Santa Jog
For the last 6 years I have organised a team for the Mary Stevens Hospice Santa Jog.
It is a great event for the whole family and takes place in Mary Stevens Park. It’s is suitable for everyone and you can walk, jog or run the 5km course.
Over the years I have had lots of Pedmore families join me and it would be great if we could get as many of you joining in too!
I will manage all the entries, pick up the suits and deliver them to you. All you need to do is join the WhatsApp group below, where there are all the details on payment and turn up on the day!
https://chat.whatsapp.com/L9BTvKrLv4lDlmVSRnxxTq
Cost is adult -£12
Child- £10
Dog-£8
All monies raised will go to support the hospice both for inpatients and bereavement care. I have been supporting the hospice voluntarily with some child bereavement support in forest school and it would be great to be able to offer more or these sessions and help cover the cost of resources.
Really hope you can join us!
Have a lovely weekend.
