Welcome back! I hope you all had a relaxing Easter break and feel refreshed for the summer ahead. I’m writing that optimistically in the hope that we have a summer worthy of the name! It’s a very short half term this year, even shorter when you count in the bank holiday on Monday. Here’s to a good weekend and a bit of sunshine to keep us all happy. See you next week!

Acorns Update

We had a visit this week from Emma, who works for Acorns Hospice. We were able to present her with a cheque for the incredible fundraising that you and your children had been involved with over the past few months. We raised an incredible £2825.00! Thank you to all of you for supporting this charity, and a big thank you to Ruth Hill for organising many of the events and fundraising activities.

Triple P Parenting Courses

Triple P is a parenting programme, but it doesn’t tell you how to be a parent. It’s more like a toolbox of ideas. You and your family choose the ideas you need. You decide the way you want to use them. It’s all about making Triple P work for you.

It aims to create supportive family environments, and to prevent, as well as treat, behavioural and emotional problems in children and teenagers.

Starting in May Dudley Council is hosting several free group courses at our Family Hubs.  Book now if you are interested. More on the link below.

Bank Holiday

A reminder that Monday (5th May) is a bank holiday so school will be closed. We will be back open as normal on Tuesday 6th.

Netflix Series Adolescence

As you may already be aware, the Netflix series Adolescence has been widely discussed over the last few weeks. The show provides a powerful, and at times difficult, look at the digital pressures young people face online and the role parents have to play in their digital wellbeing.

Free Parent Resources

To help, the company who provides our monitoring software have created a resource page you can have a look at. It’s packed with practical advice, conversation starters, and useful insights to help parents navigate the various challenges the series brings to light.

From setting boundaries around screen time to processing upsetting online content, the resources are designed to give parents the tools and knowledge to take the next steps in supporting their child’s digital wellbeing.

Here Is Where You Can Access The Resources:

Further Concerns with Roblox

As one of the more popular games with all age groups, particularly younger children, Roblox is getting its fair share of negative press lately.

Most recently (13th April) Revealing Reality have released results of their investigation called ‘A Digital Playground – The Real Guide to Roblox’. As part of this investigation the researchers created multiple account pretending to be persons aged 5, 9, 10, 13 and 40+ in order to explore the safety settings and the user experience which included:

  • Adults and children can easily interact.
  • Easy access to highly suggestive environments, including participation in adult-themed conversations.

You can read the full report HERE, which was then followed up by two articles in The Guardian HERE and HERE, the latter of which is the experience of some parents and their own child’s use of Roblox.

Support for Parents and Carers of Children With Allergies

The Allergy Team are running a meet-up on Monday 5th May at 8pm to offer practical help and expert support to parents and carers on managing allergies.  You can register for free using this link.

Using the Field

Since coming back after Easter we have been able to use the field at lunchtimes. It has been great to see children having so much fun, with so much more space to run around!
