"Love one another, as I have loved you." John 13:34

I’m sitting here writing this from home at the kitchen table, after finally feeling a little more ‘normal’ – self-isolation really isn’t much fun is it? I hope that you all are keeping well; there is a big increase locally of infection rates and I hope that it manages to keep away from you all.

A few things to tell you about today, and then we’re into our final week before half term.

Pedmore Thrive

Here is this week’s Pedmore Thrive Newsletter.

Our School Library

The KS2 library has now reopened. ? KS2 children are able to visit the library from 12.00-1.30 every Tuesday and Wednesday to borrow or return books. We will notify children in advance if there are any unexpected closures.
The library works much the same as a public library. All KS2 children will be provided with a library ticket when they use the library for the first time. Books are loaned out for 4 weeks and should be returned or renewed (re borrowed) within that time. Reminders are issued. We don’t fine like public libraries,  but if books are lost or damaged we will ask for them to be replaced.
The books that your child borrows will be entirely their own choice. They will not be linked to levels or reading outcomes. Librarians will guide and advise but we want children to enjoy choosing books for themselves. This does mean that, from time to time, your child may return home with a completely ‘unsuitable’ book. Please let your child look at the book and take pleasure from being able to choose freely. This way they will learn which books they enjoy and develop a love of books and reading.

Church Coffee Afternoon

A reminder that St Peter’s is running a cafe every Tuesday afternoon. Details below.

Family Learning

Family Learning are encouraging parents to spend time with their children, explore the great outdoors and embrace community cohesion and sustainability through a series of six challenges in the autumn months.  The short course entitled Active Autumn is available to anyone who has access to the Internet and parents can find out more and register an interest by telephoning the main ACL telephone number 01384 818143.  There is also the option to upload comments and photographs of their achievements.  As with all Family Learning courses, there is no charge to participate.

There are a number of courses available through Dudley, many of them free. See the full list of opportunities here.

Black Country Foodbank Donations

Thank you to everyone who donated to our foodbank collection for Harvest last week. This is how well we did – have a look at our certificate!

Pedmore Digital Library

Don’t forget to visit our virtual digital library. There are pages of links to many books, in many different categories, for all ages.
