Not easy, this home learning, is it?
"Love one another, as I have loved you." John 13:34

As the title says, it’s not easy is it? Even though it’s difficult, we really do appreciate everything you’re doing at home to enable your child to continue with some learning. As I’ve said many times, don’t worry if you can’t do it all; anything you can do will help, however little that may be. We will pick everything back up when your child returns to school.

Each class sets assignments every week for you to upload your child’s work; these are specific assignments for a specific piece of work. Some of you have been sending extra pieces of work into school through the HSContact email. From next week, each class will have and assignment set in TEAMS called ‘Additional Work‘. If you want to upload anything extra that your child has been doing, please upload it all in one go to this assignment and not send it through HSContact. That will help us to manage things better and will also mean you’ve got all the work and feedback in one place. To Stress: we are not expecting you to send in more work; this is just for those parents who wish to send in more.

Concerns

It has been brought to our attention this week that there are some parents who are expecting their children to ‘lie’ about certain things, mostly to do with families meeting up during the current lockdown. I would like to stress to you that it is important that we are all following the guidelines as much as we possibly can, in order to keep everyone safe. However, should you, as a family, wish to go against these guidelines that is up to you, but it isn’t right that you are expecting your children to lie about it. Children will naturally do what you ask them, but they do often ‘just talk’, both to their friends and to staff in school, and can ‘let things slip’ occasionally and they then feel guilty that they have said something they shouldn’t. Please consider the effect this has on your children and also the message that it sends to them.

Pedmore Thrive

This week’s Pedmore Thrive newsletter focuses on ‘give’. Lots of simple ideas so please have a look!

Captain Sir Tom Moore Challenge

As you are aware, Captain Sir Tom Moore died earlier this week. The army veteran became famous when he raised millions of pounds for the NHS by walking 100 laps of his garden before his 100th birthday. This was a challenge he set himself. In his memory, we thought it would be a good idea for us all to do something similar: can you set yourself a challenge of doing something 100 times to raise awareness of something you care about? This could be through exercise, drawing, completing an activity for 100 minutes, etc. In fact, anything! If you would like to have a go, please send us in a photo and we’ll share it through the website with everyone. Let’s see if we can get lots of “100s” going on over the next week or so!

Letter From Our Governors

It seems along time ago since March 23rd last year when the prime minister announced that the country was to go into its first lockdown and schools were to shut. No one could have predicted that we would find ourselves in the same situation 10 months later.

As you may know, one of the roles of the governing body is to monitor and ensure that all pupils have the best possible educational outcomes during their time at Pedmore C of E Primary school. This, as you may appreciate, is difficult for a school to achieve during a global pandemic, with the majority of children remaining at home. The governing body have continued to hold meetings during the last 12 months and want to share with you all how impressed we have been with the way that school has dealt with the many obstacles faced in providing remote learning for the children.  We really appreciate all the hard work and dedication of the staff at the school, and they have truly gone above and beyond what is asked of them. Therefore, on behalf of the governing body, I wanted to thank them all for all that they have done, and for their continued commitment and enthusiasm to all the children.

I also wanted to take this opportunity to thank you, the parents and carers. We understand how difficult it is for you to try and juggle all of life’s commitments, along with the added pressure of having to home school one or more children. All you can do is your best, and that’s all your children need. Please try to ignore any comments in the press insinuating that this generation of children will be left behind. Thank you for all that you have done and for supporting school through this pandemic. Working together as a school community, along with the strategies school have in place, will limit the effects this pandemic has on the children.

I hope that you have a great weekend, look after yourselves and each other.

Brighter days ahead I’m sure!

Pete Yates

Chair of Governors.
