End of another week…and I can’t believe how close we are to half term! A short half term this time and a short half term leading up to Easter too. Below is some important information regarding measles outbreak and a reminder about parents’ evenings. Have a good weekend and I’ll see you all next week.

MMR Vaccine Catch Up

You’ve probably heard on the news about the measles outbreak around different areas of the country. The West Midlands has been hit hardest, with 75% of all recorded positive cases being in the West Midlands. It’s important that everyone has had both doses of the MMR jab for maximum protection – the chances of contracting measles if you have been immunised is very small. There are some pop-up centres over half term in the area where you can walk up to get immunised if your child hasn’t been already. You can find out more details here.

Parents’ Evenings

A reminder that parents’ evenings are next week. Tuesday 6th February and Thursday 8th February. Times for both are the same, 4:00pm – 7:00pm. If you haven’t booked yet, please book through the link you were sent on ParentMail. Any issues or difficulties, please contact the school office.

Fund Raising Appeal

Hi, my name is Hannah and I’m the mom of Evie in Year 6 at Pedmore. For the last 2 years I have ran the Birmingham Half Marathon and raised money for charities that mean a lot to me and my family. I love being able to do this and this year I really want to raise money for the school as Evie has had the most wonderful time there! It’s been like a big happy family for us and she’s made so many fantastic memories and lifelong friends there. I’ve set up this fundraising page incase anyone else would like to donate too. Every penny is so appreciated and hopefully we can together raise enough to provide some lovely things for the children coming through the school even after Evie has left.

Thank you, Hannah Flitton

Sports Update

Last week a team from Year 5 and 6 took part in a football competition organised by the Wolves Football Foundation. It took place at The Dell Stadium. The team did very well and missed out on moving through to the quarter finals on goal difference, by one goal! Well done all.

Today, a team of boys and girls from Year 5 and Year 6 took part in a cross country competition. They did exceptionally well. There were 200 children taking part from across Dudley. Darcy, from Year 6, finished 2nd in the girls’ race and Jacob, from Year 5, finished 7th in the boys’. We will let you know the full results when they have been sent through to us. Well done everyone!

Sports Newsletter – Miss Cartwright

Dear Parents/Carers,

The time has come again, if you wish to share any photographs and details of any sports successes from this half term please send them to the home school contact email by Tuesday 6th February 2024. As much as we would love to include everyone, I cannot guarantee that all photographs will be shown; however, I will do my best to include as many as possible.

Forest School

We are back!  The site has had a good month’s rest which is so important to support and protect the ecological impact of the site.

I think the wildlife enjoy the freedom of the space and it also allows for the grass and vegetation to recover a little from the children’s feet.  It also allows me to do some all important maintenance to the site, lay chippings to help protect pathways as well as tend to our lovely willow.

I am so grateful to welcome Year 6 into the woods to kick start 2024.  This is the first time that they have been able to come before their SATs and the last 2 weeks have been such a joy.

Last week the storm was hitting us in the afternoon so the whole class came to play in the morning so no one missed out.  They were amazing and they soon got themselves into teams and we had a ‘den off’, a   competition to see whose den fitted the survival and cosy criteria they set. Of course there was no clear winner but it was great fun judging and giving feedback.

I think they loved it just as much as me!  I couldn’t resist taking this lovely picture of them all, all so happy and just having the best time playing, doing what children do best!

Food Bank

At the end of each half term, I will be doing a food bank collection.  I would be really grateful for any donations and will be collecting each day next week.  You can either leave them with Mrs Perry in the office or there will be a big box at the bottom of field.

Many thanks

Ruth Hill

Watership Down – Richard Adams

This heart-rending story is a fabulous book. It is meant for ages 10 and above. I completely recommend this book and give it 5 stars! – Winnie, Year 6.

Phonics Reminder

For those of you with children in KS1 and Reception…don’t forget to read your phonics update from staff. It will let you know what children have been working on and what you can help with at home.
